A good BBQ starts with how you like to cook. Do you want steaks sizzling over direct heat, ribs cooking low and slow, or enough capacity to feed a crowd?
At Serial Grillers, we handcraft heavy-duty BBQ grills and smokers in Thailand. Here’s how to choose a setup that suits your cooking.
Direct-heat grill or offset smoker?
If you enjoy searing steaks, grilling chicken and cooking vegetables over the heat, a direct-heat BBQ grill is a straightforward choice.
If you prefer longer cooks and smoky barbecue, an offset smoker is worth considering. Its separate firebox lets you manage the fire away from the main cooking chamber.
Choose for your usual cook, not just your biggest party
Think about the amount of food you normally prepare, the space available and how hands-on you want to be with the fire.
Check the cooking chamber dimensions rather than judging from a photograph alone. Also allow room to open the doors, reach the firebox and move safely around the BBQ.
Look closely at the construction
Steel thickness, airflow controls and access for cleaning are useful details to compare. Ask about the cooking chamber and firebox separately, because their construction can differ.
Temperature gauges help you monitor the cook, while dampers let you adjust airflow. Practical details such as a grease valve, ash collection and wheels with brakes also deserve attention.
Which Serial Grillers model suits your cooking?
Jack Jnr BBQ Grill is our direct-heat option. Handcrafted from 4mm steel, it has a 1-metre cooking chamber and dual temperature gauges for those who prefer grilling over the heat.
Jack The Ribber BBQ Smoker is an offset smoker for low-and-slow cooking. It combines a 4mm cooking chamber with an 8mm firebox, a 1-metre chamber and adjustable firebox dampers.
Grillzilla BBQ Smoker is designed for larger-scale cooking. Its 3-metre cooking chamber, 6mm chamber construction, 8mm firebox and four temperature gauges make it the model to discuss when capacity is a priority.
Ask what happens after you order
Before choosing a BBQ, confirm availability, build time, delivery arrangements and what’s included.
Serial Grillers shares build-progress photographs during fabrication and provides pre-delivery instructional videos covering seasoning, cooking techniques and maintenance. Customisation is available, so you can discuss your requirements before the build begins.
Find your next BBQ
Whether you’re choosing your first heavy-duty grill or planning a larger smoking setup, start with the food you want to cook and the number of people you usually feed.
